Tuition and Fees

Students starting the S.J.D. program during the fall 2018 semester:

Year 1 & 2 (Mandatory two years in residence)

Students will register for SJD 904 (S.J.D. Candidacy) and will be charged $14,975 tuition plus required fees each semester during the 2018/2019 academic year, pending approval by the Penn State University Board of Trustees.

Year 3+ (Students who have passed their candidacy)

Students can opt to continue to be in residence during their third year and any subsequent years in the program. They will register for SJD 900 (S.J.D. Dissertation) and will be charged $5,000 tuition plus required fees each semester.

Students can also opt to no longer be in residence and will register for SJD 903 (S.J.D. Dissertation) and be charged a $350 registration fee each semester.

Students who entered the S.J.D. program prior to the fall 2016 semester:

In Residence

Students who have successfully completed their candidacy and who remain in residence will register for SJD 900 (S.J.D. Dissertation) and will be charged $5,000 tuition plus required fees each semester. Students will also be charged the current Penn State Law per-credit tuition rate for any audit courses.

Not in Residence

Students who have successfully completed their candidacy and are no longer in residence will register for SJD 903 (S.J.D. Dissertation) and be charged a $350 registration fee each semester.
