Penn State Law to host talk on smart power, international law, and policy


The International Law Society and the Student Government Association of the School of International Affairs are hosting a roundtable discussion on recent U.S.-relevant developments in trade, law, human rights, and strategic affairs in South and East Asia. “Power and Diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific” will be held at Penn State Law’s Lewis Katz Building, University Park, Pa., on Thursday, April 12 and will feature a panel of experienced scholars and diplomats who will offer their perspectives on current events and ongoing issues in the region. In addition to the speakers’ remarks and discussion of several topical questions, the program will close with a question and answer session with the audience.

The featured panelists include:

Philip J. Crowley, Omar Bradley Chair for Strategic Leadership at the Penn State Dickinson School of Law, Dickinson College, and U.S. Army War College.

Susan Beth Farmer, McQuaide Blasko Faculty Scholar and Professor of Law and International Affairs, Penn State Dickinson School of Law.

Graham Fletcher, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Australia – Washington, D.C.

Dr. Douglas Paal, Vice President for Studies and Director, Asian Studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Greg Sutliff Auditorium of the Lewis Katz Building in University Park and be simulcast to room 114 of Lewis Katz Hall in Carlisle. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
