Professor Flatto wraps up visit at Hebrew University

Professor David Flatto is teaching a winter term course on "Transformative Phases of Early Jewish Jurisprudence," at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The course is a comparative-historical study of the development of the Jewish and Western notions of power, law, and authority. As a visiting professor, he is also participating in various faculty workshops. According to Professor Flatto, "Hebrew University Law School is an important center for international and comparative law, and a first-rate university. It has been fascinating to connect with distinguished legal and interdisciplinary scholars."

Professor Flatto also sat in on jury deliberations for the pilot episode of World on Trial. Hebrew University hosted one of seven remote juries around the world which will render verdicts based on the videotaped trial which was filmed before a live jury and audience in the courtroom at Penn State Law. The other international juries include: the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, Cape Town University in South Africa, at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Sciences Po in Paris, McGill University in Montreal, and India University in Bangalore. The pilot episode concerned the legality of France's 2004 "headscarf law" which forbids the wearing of conspicuous religious garb in public schools.
