Professor Wadhia to participate in panel discussion on immigration law at Case Western Reserve University

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia, Samuel Weiss Faculty Scholar and director of the Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic at Penn State Law, is scheduled to participate in a panel discussion on immigration reform on Sept. 18 at a conference at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

The conference, “New Beginning, Resets and Pivots: The International Legal Practice of the Obama Administration,” celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Frederick K. Cox International Law Center at Case Western Review University School of Law and will be webcast online.

Wadhia’s panel, entitled “Executive Action and Immigration Reform,” is scheduled for 12 p.m. Joining Wadhia on the panel are David Leopold, founder and principal of Leopold and Associates Co., PA, and David Thronson, associate dean for academic affairs and professor of law at the Michigan State University College of Law. The panel will be moderated by Avidan Cover, assistant professor of law and director of the Institute for Global Security Law and Policy at Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

Wadhia is an expert on immigration law and one of the nation’s leading scholars on the role of prosecutorial discretion in immigration law. Her scholarship in this area has served as a foundation for scholars, advocates, and government officials seeking to understand or design a strong prosecutorial discretion policy. Her work identifies the historical role of prosecutorial discretion in immigration law, the extent to which some acts of discretion operate as a benefit, and the dynamic role and need for transparency, sound procedures, and accountability. Her book, Beyond Deportation: The Role of Prosecutorial Discretion in Immigration Cases, published by New York University Press, is the first on the topic.
