Schedule of Appellate Moot Court Competitions

The Appellate Moot Court Board will sponsor teams for the following competitions during the 2015-16 academic year:

ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition

The ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition is an annual competition hosted by the ABA and simulates an appeal before the US Supreme Court. Each year the ABA Competition problem focuses on a recent issue before the Supreme Court with topics ranging from Civil Procedure to Criminal Law. The regional round of the competition takes place In Washington DC.

Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

Sponsored by White & Case LLP and administered by the International Law Students Association (ILSA), the Jessup Competition is the largest Moot Court competition in the world with more than 550 law schools in more than 80 countries competing in the regional rounds. The Jessup competition simulates a dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice. The regional round of the competition takes place in Washington DC.

NBLSA Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition

The Frederick Douglas Competition is hosted by the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), and simulates an appellate level argument. Each year the competition focuses on a timely and novel legal issue with varying topics. The regional competition takes place at the Annual NBLSA convention in Baltimore, MD. All students considering the Frederick Douglass Team must be NBLSA members in good standing at the time of the Selection Competition.

John J. Gibbons Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition

The Gibbons Criminal Procedure Competition is hosted by Seton hall Law School and simulates an appeal before the US Supreme Court. Each year the competition problem focuses on timely issues of criminal law and criminal procedure. The competition takes place at Seton Hall Law School in Newark, NJ.

The Jeffrey G. Miller Pace National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition

The Pace Environmental Competition is hosted by Pace Law School and simulates an appellate level argument between three parties. Each year the competition focuses on relevant issues concerning environmental law. The competition is takes place at Pace Law School in White Plains, NY.

National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition

Faculty Advisor: Professor Michele Vollmer

The National Veterans Law Competition is hosted by George Washington law school and simulates an appellate argument before the US Supreme Court. Each year the competition topic  focuses on a dispute from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Competition judges include judges from both the federal circuit and the VA system as well as practicing lawyers in the field. The Competition takes place in Washington DC.

LLM International Arbitration Team

 

The LLM International Arbitration Competition is hosted by American University. The team is administered by the Penn State Law Moot Court Board and run through the Penn State Law LLM Program. This competition is available only to LLM Program students and simulates an arbitral proceeding before an arbitral panel. The competition takes place in Washington DC.
