A facilitated discussion with Petra Tschakert and Chris Forest about recently released reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and learnings from 2014 Lima Climate Change Convention will take place from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in 112 Walker Building. An informal reception will follow.

Tschakert, an associate professor in Penn State’s Department of Geography, is the coordinating lead author of the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). She helped develop the chapter “Livelihoods and Poverty” of their report titled “Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability.” She was also part of the core writing team that just released the 2014 Climate Change Synthesis report in November. She is currently attending the 20th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Lima, Peru, being held through Dec. 12.

Forest, an associate professor of climate dynamics in Penn State’s Department of Meteorology and the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute, served as a lead author on the chapter "Evaluation of Climate Models” of the 2013 report “The Physical Science Basis.” He was also a contributing author to the chapter “Understanding and Attributing Climate Change” and lead author on the U.S. Climate Change Science Program’s 2006 report examining the estimates of temperature trends in the atmospheric and surface climate data.

The discussion is sponsored by Penn State’s Sustainability Institute’s “Climate Change and Conflict Management” Reinvention Fund Project. The project's primary goal is to bring people together at Penn State to identify climate-related impacts, potential conflict areas and potential solutions.
