Penn State Law students were among thousands of volunteers who raised a record-breaking $13,343,517.33 for pediatric cancer research. The year-long fundraising event culminated in a 46-hour dance marathon. This year, law school raised $12,729.39.
Overcrowded city
The United Nations estimates that by 2050 the planet’s human population will be 9.6 billion—stretching the resource of an already resource-stretched world. “The 9 Billion People Question: The Challenge of Global Resource Scarcity,” at Penn State on February 7 will examine the impact of global resource scarcity on the world’s legal, agricultural, and security environments.
Judge Patricia H. Jenkins will fill a vacancy on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, the state Senate confirmed by vote earlier this week.
Louis F. Del Duca
Professor Emeritus Louis F. Del Duca, a man who has impacted the lives of many Penn State Dickinson School of Law alumni throughout his 57 years of teaching, will be recognized by the Penn State Alumni Association with its prestigious Honorary Alumni Award and inducted as an honorary alumnus during Traditional Reunion Weekend at University Park in June 2014.
Mary Laurie
Later this month, Penn State University Dickinson School of Law graduate Mary Laurie '13 will wrap up a post-graduate fellowship at Human Rights Watch in Washington, D.C. Laurie credits connections and programs at Penn State Law as factors in helping her succeed in the position.
Joseph Sestak, former congressman and a former U.S. Navy three-star admiral, the Gen. Omar N. Bradley Chair in Strategic Leadership at Penn State University’s Dickinson School of Law, will present “Leadership to Restore the American Dream,” November 4 at 6 p.m.
Law students, faculty, and others interested in careers in law are invited to “Inside the Third Circuit: Advocacy, Collegiality, and Decision Making,” a panel discussion set for Monday, September 23 at 12:30 p.m. in University Park in the Greg Sutliff Auditorium.
The Honorable Christopher C. Conner ’82 has stepped into the role of chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Judge Yvette Kane finished her term as chief judge on August 31.
The Family Law Clinic will sponsor a film screening and discussion panel in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on October 2, 2013.
