Alumni and friends invited to share practice areas at ‘Careers in the Law’ informational event


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Alumni and friends of Penn State Law are invited to return to the law school next month for a new event designed to educate students on the various legal practice areas available to new attorneys.

The Office of Career Services will host the law school’s first Careers in the Law event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on April 7 in the Lewis Katz Building in University Park.

The goal of the event is to allow students the opportunity to meet with a number of practitioners from multiple disciplines to help them decide the correct path for their legal career. Careers in the Law is an informational fair only, and the students are not permitted to bring their résumés.

During the information fair portion of the event (6:00 to 7:30 p.m.), the atrium of the Katz Building will be filled with tables, one for each practice area, with alumni and friends who work, or have worked, in each practice area. Alumni and friends of the law school are invited to staff these tables:

  • Employment Law
  • Healthcare
  • Commercial Litigation
  • Personal Injury (Plaintiff side)
  • Family Law/Children's Advocacy
  • Tax Law
  • Trusts & Estates
  • Public Defender
  • Criminal Law
  • Prosecutors
  • Government (other than Pros, like City Attorney)
  • Real Estate/Land-Use
  • Workers Compensation
  • Corporate Law
  • Immigration
  • Intellectual Property
  • Entertainment
  • In-house Counsel
  • Bankruptcy
  • Environmental Law 

The information fair will be followed by a networking reception at 7:30 p.m. Additionally, participants are invited back to campus on April 8 for continental breakfast, CLE, and a tailgate-style lunch, followed by the Penn State baseball game against Ohio State. All events are complimentary for Careers in the Law volunteers.
