On March 9 in Geneva, Switzerland, Professor Dermot Groome will address the current 13th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on "the right to truth" as a recognized human right under international law. The right to the truth has emerged as a legal issue at the regional, national, and international levels. It relates to the obligation of the state to provide information to victims, their families, or even society as a whole about the circumstances surrounding serious violations of human rights. In addition to his role with Penn State Law, Professor Groome is senior trial attorney at the Office of the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
