UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – With a contentious U.S. presidential election now less than two weeks away, Penn State Law Professor Samuel C. Thompson, Jr. is shining light on the economic policy differences of its two candidates with his latest book, Trump vs. Harris, Voter’s Guide to Their Economic Debate.
The book focuses on the economic policies and views of presidential candidates Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, while also presenting Thompson’s general personal view on every major issue within the self-published work. Written for the “average” American citizen, its goal is to promote a familiarity with the fundamental issues affecting the growth of the U.S. economy, while also highlighting the impact of national economic growth on personal investment returns.

Thompson has authored economic policy books in previous presidential election cycles, including the 2020 book, Biden vs. Trump: Voter’s Guide on Economics, and the 2012 book, The Obama vs. Romney Debate on Economic Growth: A Citizen’s Guide to the Issues.
Thompson and two of his research assistants at Penn State Law, third year students Anthony D. Miduri and Tyler Elijah Thomas, have jointly written two articles on the Trump vs. Harris book. The articles, entitled The Core Of The Book: Trump Vs. Harris: Voter’s Guide To Their Economic Debate (“Tvh”), and (2) Summary Of The Authors’ Personal Positions On Many Of The Issues, are published by the Michigan State Law Review Online and can be accessed free online.
Thompson is a professor of law, the Arthur Weiss Distinguished Faculty Scholar, and the director of the Center for the Study of Mergers and Acquisitions at Penn State Law in University Park. An expert on tax law and merger and acquisition law, this semester Thompson is teaching two courses; Business Planning for Mergers and Acquisitions, which looks at the corporate, securities, tax, and antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions; and Business Tax Policy. Thompson is the author of many articles and books, including the following books published by the Practicing Law Institute (PLI) and updated annually: Mergers, Acquisitions, and Tender Offers (6 Vols); Business Taxation Deskbook (2 Vols), and the recently published Corporate Valuation in Mergers and Acquisitions.
