Professor Denis Simon of the School of International Affairs participated in the 3rd Annual "Summer Davos" meeting of the World Economic Forum held September 1-12 in Dalian, China. Professor Simon was the special guest of Dalian Mayor Li Wancai and Party Secretary Xia Deren. Since 2007, the World Economic Forum has selected China as a special platform to bring together a large number of global entrepreneurs, young scientists, and future leaders to address some of the world's most complex issues.
This year's meeting was built around the theme of "recovery and re-rebuilding" the global economy in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. While in Dalian, Professor Simon gave a lecture on "Dalian's Evolving Role as a New Innovation Base in Northeast Asia" to the Foreign Expatriate Business Association, which is composed to executives from some of the world's leading firms with foreign investments in Dalian. In addition, Professor Simon was honored by Focus Dalian Magazine as a recipient of the "Dalian Dragons Award." The award was presented in recognition of his contribution to "doing business with a conscience."
