Stephanie Nolan Deviney ’97 elected to PSU Board of Trustees

Stephanie Nolan Deviney ’97, attorney at the law firm of Fox Rothschild LLP in Exton, Pennsylvania, has been elected to the Penn State University Board of Trustees for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2010.

"I believe it is extremely important for the Law School to have a strong voice on the board,” Deviney said. "The merger of The Dickinson School of Law and Penn State University has created enormous opportunities not only for current students, but also for alumni. Providing Penn State students an affordable education while keeping pace with the latest technology and amenities of other top universities is of utmost importance. My experience as an attorney provides me with useful analytical, communication, and negotiation skills that will help me fulfill my responsibilities to the University and its students,” she added.

Deviney is a member of Fox Rothschild's Litigation Department and the Construction Law Group. She has considerable experience representing contractors and subcontractors in commercial litigation matters. Prior to joining Fox Rothschild, Deviney was associated with a regional firm in New Jersey where she represented both debtors and creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy proceedings.

Deviney is a 1997 graduate of Penn State University, The Dickinson School of Law where she was president of the Women's Law Caucus. She also served as comments editor for the Dickinson Law Review and was a member of the National Trial Competition Team. During law school, Deviney interned for the Honorable Joseph E. Irenas, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, as well as for the Pennsylvania Attorney General-Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Currently Deviney is the secretary/treasurer for the General Alumni Association of the Law School and is president of the Delchester Chapter. She serves the community as a member of the Women Build Committee for Chester County Habitat for Humanity. She is chairperson of the Membership Committee of the Chester County Bar Association and is a member of the Civil Litigation and Women in the Law committees.

Deviney graduated from the University of Richmond in 1994. She also attended Villa Maria Academy in Malvern, Pennsylvania, where she serves on the Board of Directors for the Alumnae Association. She resides in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania, with her husband James (PSU '07) and 5-year-old son, Seamus.

Penn State's 32-member Board of Trustees is composed of six members appointed by the governor, nine elected by the alumni and six members each elected by agricultural societies and by the board representing business and industry endeavors. In addition, five members serve in an ex officio capacity by virtue of their position within the University or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. They are the President of the University; the Governor of the Commonwealth; and the state secretaries of the departments of Agriculture, Education, and Conservation and Natural Resources.
