Superior Court judge will swear fellow alum into state government

When Judge Correale F. Stevens '72 of the Commonwealth Superior Court swears in the new Pennsylvania House of Representatives on January 4, he will admit fellow alum Tarah Toohil '08 to the ranks of state government. Toohil is scheduled to begin her first term as representative of the 116th Legislative District in Luzerne County on January 4.

Judge Stevens '72 was a Luzerne County district attorney and Common Pleas Court judge before his election to his first ten-year Superior Court term in 1997. Judge Stevens, who also serves as a member of the Law School's Board of Counselors, was elected president judge of the Superior Court this year. Prior to his judicial career he was elected to four terms in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He then served as a district attorney and then a trial judge in Luzerne County before his election to the Superior Court.

“It will be a very special moment for the 116th Legislative District, as he once held the seat I’m now stepping into. It’s a very rare and special occurrence and a day the people of the 116th will be very proud of,” Toohil told the Scranton Times Leader
