Immigrants’ rights advocate and law professor Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia was reappointed to a third and final year on the ABA Commission on Immigration. The commission works to ensure fair treatment and full due process rights for immigrants and refugees within the United States. Professor Wadhia directs the Center for Immigrants’ Rights and is an expert on a number of immigration issues including access to counsel for noncitizens, prosecutorial discretion in immigartion law, and the legacy of post 9/11 immigration laws.
“The experience of working with the ABA Commission has been invaluable since millions of people are affected by immigration law and policy and the ABA Commission plays an important role in addressing issues that immigrants face," she said. Guided by resolutions adopted by the ABA House of Delegates, the Commission works to coordinate and strengthen the ABA’s response to legal developments and to address the needs of immigrants and newcomers.
