Legal Writing for International Students

Lawyering in a globalized world requires excellent writing skills. Whether your office is located in Shanghai, Nairobi, or New York City, clients increasingly expect the best in written communication. The legal writing program for international students at Penn State Law will teach you the nuts and bolts of legal writing through dedicated full-time faculty with expertise in both law and linguistics. Our innovative and multidisciplinary approach, with an in-house linguist trained specifically to help international students learn and master legal English, will allow you to reach your full potential, whether in Beijing or Mumbai.

Here is what some of our former students have to say:

"The LL.M. Legal Writing and Research class is the most valuable course that LL.M. students will take. Substantive knowledge is a skill that most of the students will acquire, but the art of writing concisely and being consistent in legal methodology is where the writing program truly shined. The LL.M. writing program helped me in my current position as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Edinburgh and as a senior research associate with Jindal Global Law School in India." –Ylli Dautaj, LL.M. Class of 2018

"One of the biggest advantages I am reaping as a litigator in the courts of India is effective application of the law to a given set of facts. Penn State Law's Legal Writing class greatly benefited me not only in my career but also aided in successfully tackling the MEE Portion of the bar exam, which initially seemed the most challenging. Professor Balachandran's and Professor Settgast's passion for writing significantly developed my writing skill. As a result, I am able to navigate through any writing complexity and produce an admirable work product." –Ekakshra Mahajan, LL.M. Class of 2018
