To help defray the cost of visiting Penn State Law, the law school will reimburse admitted students up to $300 in travel expenses. If you are planning to attend an Admitted Student Program, the law school will reimburse up to $500 in travel expenses. Qualifying expenses include airfare, mileage, tolls, and hotel fees (room and tax only, up to $150). Travel costs in excess of $300 are the student’s responsibility. Travel reimbursements do not cover meals.
Students must meet with a representative from the Admissions Office during their visit and provide receipts or mileage reports (i.e., a Google Maps printout) to verify the costs for which they are requesting reimbursement. Receipts and reimbursement forms must be submitted within 30 days of the visit date. Late submissions will not be reimbursed. All travel reimbursements must be used by July 31 and cannot be applied towards relocation cost.
Only the room charge, taxes, and fees will be covered by the law school. The law school will not reimburse for other hotel charges including internet access, phone calls, meals, or other charges to the room.
Once students have submitted their reimbursement forms and receipts, they should allow 3-5 weeks to receive their reimbursement.
- The travel reimbursement is to be used for one visit only.
- Personal car mileage is reimbursed for the round trip at a per-mile rate that is yet to be determined. In order to be reimbursed for mileage, visitors must provide a screenshot or printed copy of their driven route that displays mileage one-way.
- A limit will also apply for reimbursement of the hotel stay.
- Meal expenses are not reimbursable.
- The reimbursement is for admitted student travel only. Travel costs for guests are not included in the reimbursement.
- Receipts and the reimbursement form must be returned to the Admissions Office within 30 days of travel.
- Travel must be completed prior to July 31, 2019.
- Applicants are encouraged to read the instructions on the Visitor Information Form carefully as failure to complete the form correctly or include required identification documents will cause a delay in reimbursement.
- If the student is combining visits to multiple law schools on the same trip they must provide the names of those schools and dates of their visits.
- A Travel reimbursement cannot be used in helping defray the cost of relocation.
