Penn State Law professor Samuel C. Thompson Jr. will present three special lectures in October and November to provide voters with an overview of Hillary Clinton’s and Donald Trump’s varying economic policy proposals. The talks are free and open to the public and will be streamed live on the Penn State Law YouTube channel.
The lectures will be based on Thompson's self-published book, The Clinton vs. Trump Debate on Economic Growth: A Citizens' Guide to the Issues, which is written to help voters understand the economic policies of the two presidential candidates. The book will be available online for free in advance of the election.
Each event will focus on different areas of economic policy and the candidates’ approaches to fostering economic development. Thompson will begin each session with some background on the fundamental economic issues at stake in the election before getting into the specifics of the Clinton and Trump policy proposals and their likely outcomes on the U.S. economy.
Topics include international trade and investment, monetary and fiscal policy, Social Security and Medicare, regulatory and antitrust policy, health care, the minimum wage, tax policy, and immigration policy.
The October 24 lecture will cover the first eleven chapters of the book, which are available online here.
