Law School mourns the death of Assistant Dean for Administration Nancy J. LaMont

The Law School is saddened to announce the death of Nancy J. LaMont ’78, the Law School’s Assistant Dean for Administration and a former member of the Law School’s Board of Trustees. Surrounded by family and friends, Dean LaMont died on Saturday, October 29 at the age of 57.

“Nancy’s contributions to her Law School were invaluable,” said Dean Philip McConnaughay. “As a member of the Law School’s Board of Trustees, she was instrumental in the negotiations leading to the merger of The Dickinson School of Law with Penn State University. As Assistant Dean for Administration, she oversaw the construction of our magnificent Lewis Katz Hall in Carlisle and worked on a daily basis to ensure the administrative support necessary for the Law School to thrive in today’s highly competitive environment.”

Before joining the administration of the Law School, Dean LaMont served on the Law School’s Board of Trustees. During her tenure as a Trustee, Dean LaMont served on the Finance Committee, chaired the Board’s Strategic and Long Range Planning Committee, and served as trustee liaison to the Penn State Board of Trustees. She joined the Law School’s administration in 2000, serving initially as Director of Continuing Education and Outreach until her appointment in 2003 as Assistant Dean for Administration, a position in which she oversaw the Law School’s facilities administration and planning and administrative support staff.

Prior to joining the Law School, Dean LaMont served as in-house counsel for Roadrunner Planning and Consulting in Pittsburgh, and was a partner in the Pittsburgh firm of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott. She received her B.A. degree from Allegheny College in 1974 and her J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law in 1978.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 North Hanover Street in Carlisle, PA, with a reception immediately following in the Ridge Commons area of Lewis Katz Hall.

In recognition of Nancy’s extraordinary contributions and devotion to The Dickinson School of Law, the Law School has established the Nancy J. Lamont Faculty Scholar Award.
