Lewis Katz Building named one of the world's best academic buildings

Architizier, a blog dedicated to architecture, named Lewis Katz Building to its list of “Top 10 University Buildings that Actually Make You Want to go to Class.” Lewis Katz Building is in the company of Centro Tecnologico San Joaquin in Santiago Chile, Library Technical University in Delft, Netherlands, and the Deichmann Center for Social Interaction & Spitzer-Salant School of Social Work at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel.

Lewis Katz Building has also received honors from the Society of American Registered Architects New York Council (SARA NY), the Society of American Registered Architects Pennsylvania Council (SARA PA) and the highest, Platinum rating from the College Designer Collabetition Awards for design excellence. The Lewis Katz Building was also named “Project of the Year” by Mid-Atlantic Construction magazine and was a finalist in the 2009 Building Magazine’s Project Innovations Awards.

Designed by Ennead Architects (formerly Polshek Partnership), the project was completed in 2009. A LEED Silver building, Lewis Katz Building features a glass curtain wall and a library study space overlooking campus along with many “green” features designed to cut down on the building’s carbon footprint.  The structure is home to both Penn State Law and the School of International Affairs.
