Moot court teams place in regional competitions

Moot court teams from the Penn State Dickinson School of Law have ended their competition runs, and have had five separate teams place at the regional and national levels.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Moot court teams from the Penn State Dickinson School of Law have ended their competition runs, and have had five separate teams place at the regional and national levels.

In addition to the advancement of the Black Law Students Association to nationals, four other teams placed at the regional level. The American Association for Justice Trial Team, National Environmental Team, and National Trial Team all reached the semi-finals at the regional level, while the Philip C. Jessup International Team placed in the quarter-finals at the regional level.

“The students made these competitions a top priority – just as all lawyers should treat their clients,” said Penn State Law professor and faculty adviser Phil Sechler. “They dug into the facts, mastered the law, and ultimately were able to put on compelling presentations– whether in an appellate or trial setting.  I believe everyone who had the privilege of working with them is extremely proud of their efforts and the results.”

Shayan Noor, coach and Executive Board chair of the Jessup Team said that she is “very proud of the accomplishments of these teams and the Moot Court Board as a whole. We had the greatest level of participation we've ever seen from 3Ls who were no longer competing, but returned to help their former teams prepare, and advocates and coaches who were truly dedicated to succeeding in their competitions. I'm pleased to say that the Moot Court Board, as an organization, has enjoyed its most successful year to date."

The Penn State Law Moot Court Board’s purpose is to develop advocacy skills and prepare student members to compete in selected moot court and oral advocacy competitions across the country and internationally. The Moot Court Board is run entirely by students; members are selected annually through a selection competition held at the start of the fall semester.
