Professor Dannin receives lifetime achievement award from top labor relations association

In 1999 LERA began recognizing lifetime contributions to the many fields of labor and employment and has since given 22 individuals the award. “The importance of the award lies in the contributions making an impact across the multiple areas of practice: labor, management, government, mediation, and academia,” LERA Executive Director Eric Duchinsky said. “Though some recipients garnered media attention and exposure like George Schultz, U.S. Secretary of State under President Reagan, and John Dunlop, U.S. Secretary of Labor under President Ford, most shaped their professions outside of the general spotlight. They worked diligently through research, policy making, union work, and their impact still resonates through collective bargaining agreements and labor relations.”

 

In recognition of her exemplary contributions, the organization cited Dannin’s “work on the executive board, tireless support of local LERA chapters, contributions to annual meeting programs and research on LERA’s Employment Policy Research Network” as well as her monthly online newsletter, Labor and the Law which has been published for 15 years for academics, lawyers, and laypeople. Founded in 1947, LERA is comprised of professionals interested in all aspects of labor and employment relations who network to share ideas and learn about new developments and practices.

 

“My colleagues in the LERA include people of national and international renown. Given their achievements I'm honored, and certainly surprised, to receive this award,” Dannin said.

 

Dannin joined the Law School faculty in 2006 after teaching at Wayne State University Law School and in San Diego at California Western School of Law. Prior to her academic career, she was a trial attorney with the National Labor Relations Board. Dannin writes primarily in the areas of collective bargaining, privatization, New Zealand labor law, and legal education. She is a prolific writer of both scholarly articles and popular pieces. She is the author of Taking Back the Workers' Law - How to Fight the Assault on Labor Rights and Working Free: The Origins and Impact of New Zealand's Employment Contracts Act.

 

Dannin will receive the award at the LERA annual meeting on June 6 in St. Louis.
