UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Michele Vollmer, director of Penn State Law’s Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic, will give a presentation on the appellate process for Veterans Affairs pension and disability claims at the Board of Veterans Appeals and the U.S. Court of Veterans Appeals on April 29 at Penn State Fayette. She will also participate in a panel discussion on veterans legal issues during the event, “Serving Those Who Served: Veteran Benefits, Programs, and Legal Issues,” which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in 101 BioMed Building.
The program will kick off with a screening of the documentary “Journal to Normal,” which recounts the service of women who have seen combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Following the film, Vollmer and her fellow panelists will discuss current concerns for recent and not-so-recent veterans. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists at the conclusion of the program.
To register for the event, which is sponsored by Penn State Fayette, the Fayette County Bar Association, and the Westmoreland Bar Association, call 724-834-6730.
The Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic, which launched last year, is designed to train Penn State Law students to provide legal representation to veterans and current servicemembers in some specialized and complex areas of statutory and regulatory law, and to advocate on behalf of veterans and those serving in the military on policy matters at both the state and federal level. More information is available on the Veterans and Service members Legal Clinic website.
