UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Law’s Center for Immigrants’ Rights held a community outreach event on Dec. 11 summarizing President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, which expanded the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and created the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program.  The event was co-sponsored by the Law Office of Sharon Barney.
Penn State Law Immigration Clinic to begin detainee education at correctional facility
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia, Penn State Law professor, along with students from the Penn State Law Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic will begin a series of educational group rights presentations at the Clinton County Correctional Facility in McElhattan, Pa., for non-citizens who are currently in immigration custody.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- After months of closed-door meetings with business leaders, policy experts, and interest groups, President Obama has announced executive actions aimed at protecting qualifying individuals from deportation through a longstanding tool called prosecutorial discretion.
On June 12, 2014, agents from Homeland Security Investigation (HSI*) and other law enforcement agencies conducted an immigration raid of several Asian restaurants in State College, Pa. Subsequently, more than a dozen people were apprehended and detained.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A letter on the use of prosecutorial discretion in the enforcement of immigration law signed by 136 immigration law experts and co-written by a Penn State Law professor was delivered to the White House today. U.S. law professors from 32 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico signed on to the letter, co-authored by ShobaSivaprasad Wadhia, Samuel Weiss Faculty Scholar and director of the Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic at Penn State Law.
With immigration reform prominent in news and politics, Penn State Law Samuel Weiss Faculty Scholar and clinical law professor Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia will discuss executive power in immigration law as part of a panel at the ninth annual Homeland Security Law Institute on August 22 in Washington, D.C. Her talk will focus on separation of powers concerns and procedural obligations under administrative law.
